zahirmansuri Posted February 12, 2023 Report Posted February 12, 2023 I know it's a long shot. There are hives at NRPA in Ashburn. I'm interested to volunteer as I live close by. I'm a beginner and taking course this year so would like to be hands-on to get experience. Quote
Ed Kicha Posted February 12, 2023 Report Posted February 12, 2023 Hello Zahir. The hives you speak of belong to an LBA member who obtained permission from the NRPA to place them there. LBA periodically receives offers from individuals and organizations of land/access to keep bees on their properties. I will make sure any offers I hear of are disseminated to the class for everyone's awareness. In the meantime, I would highly recommend reaching out to organizations in your area that might be ameanable to hosting bees - such as utility companies, schools, non-profits, farms, etc. You might get lucky and find someone nearby who would be willing to host you and your bees, though you may have to extend your search out some miles. My first apiary was 28 miles from home, but eventually found a willing patron only 9 miles from my home - a very easy 20 minute drive to my current apiary. I wish you well in the course, and look forward to helping your reach your beekeeping goals. 1 Quote
